Speaker Series Featuring Melissa Darby – April 28, 2026

We’re launching this year’s guest speaker series with “The Portland Zoo Railway: The Biggest Little Railway in the Country.” Join us as speaker Melissa Darby explores the rich history and lasting legacy of this beloved local railroad — from its 1958 debut, when it carried over 200,000 passengers in its first summer, to the millions who’ve ridden since.

About the Speaker:
Melissa Darby is an award-winning scholar, author, and archaeologist and is on the research faculty in the Department of Anthropology at Portland State University. Darby has worked for over forty years in the Northwest and is the principal investigator at Lower Columbia Research & Archaeology, LLC.
