All aboard for a paw-some event!
We heard you loud and clear. Last year you loved ORHF and Multnomah County Animal Shelter’s special event and we are thrilled to announce that we’re combining two of your favorite things again: train rides and pet adoption!
Train Rides
Climb aboard for a scenic train ride that’s fun for the whole family! Tickets are available for purchase, so don’t miss the chance to experience a memorable journey.
Pet Adoption
Are you looking for your new furry co-conductor? Stop by our free Pet Adoption Outreach event inside the Center. Last year, many pets found their forever homes, and this year, your new best friend could be waiting for you!
Come for the train ride, stay for the pets—or vice versa! Either way, we’re excited to see you there. Bring the whole family for a day of fun, belly rubs, and ear scratches.
FAQs
When is the event?
Saturday, September 14 (1-4pm) at Oregon Rail Heritage Center.
Where do I park?
Oregon Rail Hertiage Center’s parking lot is located under the Highway 99 viaduct, across the MAX tracks from the front of the building (directions). Central Eastside train crossings can delay your arrival considerably. Consult this map for our recommendations for avoiding trains.
How much does it cost to adopt from Multnomah County Animal Services?
Dogs – $25 / Cats – $15 / Pocket Pets – $5. In addition to the Adoption Fee, all residents of Multnomah County are required to license their pet. To learn more information about licensing and fees, visit this link.
What do I need to adopt a pet at the event?
We ask that you have a valid ID to adopt a pet, have access to an email account for your adoption fee and paperwork and are 18+ in age.
How will I pay my adoption fee?
All adoptions at the event will be processed through an online system called Adopets. Multnomah County Animal Services will walk you through this at the time of adoption, but you can get a head start by registering here.
I bought a ticket, but want to adopt – can you hold the pet for me while I go on a train ride?
Sadly, we will not be placing a hold on pets today. We ask that you please enjoy your train ride and then come back to start the adoption!
Can I bring my new pet on the train?
As exciting as that sounds, we ask that all furry friends stay off the train rides for today!
Do I have to buy a train ticket to adopt?
Train rides are not required to adopt a pet.
What time are the train rides?
Train departure times are at 1pm, 2pm, 3pm, and 4pm and last about 45 minutes.
How much are the train tickets?
$15 for adults / $10 for children 3-12 / Children 2 and under ride free (on lap).
